Cemetery Survey
Survey Notes
There are several broken stones with deterioration to inscriptions. There is at least one nearly completely sunken stone along with both obelisks missing the tops of their finials. Many of the older stones appear to have a white cementititous material that was rubbed into the inscriptions along with significant abrasive damage (from a wire brush…?) Damage may appear worse due to general organic growth on markers, but is significant nonetheless.
There have been several disinterments from this plot including; David Leslie Thaxton (1870-1955) and his wife Ann Henry Nance Thaxton (1881-1975) and children Rubie Sophie Thaxton (1899-1901) and Mary Lena Thaxton (1908-1951,) and they were reinterred in a plot in Greenwood Cemetery on September 21, 1982 with daughter Janie Virginia Thaxton (1912-2010), so perhaps she initiated this move.
