Cemetery Survey
Survey Notes
Previous survey indicated marker had fallen, it has since be re-erected
A very peaceful spot cemetery set in a patch of larger trees in a field. Due to poor previous survey it is difficult to get a feel for what is or may have been here. The area is littered with rocks, likely an old foundation sits near cemetery…or was it an older walled cemeter, typical for this area of Bedford that was pushed in…. There also appears to be evidence of rocks lining a path to cemetery…something done far more recently than burials. Were tomb rocks disturbed? Did the resetting of the obelisk involve equipment that necessitated removal of tomb rocks? Prior survey mentions “20 tomb rocks” but not clear if that is head and foot (often seems to be,) or includes graves marked with initialed footstones – if so 10 burials is approximately what we identified. More research is needed here to better understand how this cemetery relates to the older “Cloverlea Farm House.”
